Salon Magazine has just posted a review of a new book chronicling the history of the antivaccination movement as it relates to autism. From the sound of the review, anti-vaccinationists are not going to be happy with the book or its version of events. I'm currently 36 weeks pregnant, and the baby (a little boy) has some extra fluid in the right kidney. As a result I've had 4 ultrasounds (instead of the normal 2) and baby will have to have a scan right after birth, as well as a course of antibiotics.

We've had very serious discussions about autism, and some people have brought up the theory that multiple scans can maybe contribute to a trigger, along with other factors.
Weighing the pros and the cons, I am still...

Mr maum has taken my daughter away for a whole week, it's his parents 40th wedding anniversary and I can't fly so I've been left behind.

I feel so lost! Little one left excitedly this morning, looking forward to getting on the plane and seeing Granny... So far I watched the 1st LOTR movie, eaten a huge pizza and done some shopping, it's now evening and I just don't want to go to bed. I'm so pathetic....

a question for all of you. How do you feel when it is one sibling's birthday and people give gifts ot the other sibling so they do not feel left out?
I was at a party today where this happened, the b-day girl was turning 1, the sister 4. we finished cake and the older one opened some gifts,,.I thought it was really wierd, especially since they never opened the younger one's gifts!

my daughter has a big mop-top that i dont want to touch. however, it is getting too long in the front and she pulls out- and eats- every elastic or clip i use. I can keep them in maybe 50% of the time at best. Because it is so curly, I do not want her to have bangs, will look like a poodle, right? what do I do until she can leave something in her hair or it grows out? should i cut it to frame her face a bit, then when she is older let it grow out? ugh! here si a pic showing the issue..

My son is 5 1/2 and last night I was putting dishes in the dishwasher, starting laundry, emptying trash, etc, the kind of stuff you do before bed. I was already a little ticked off at him cuz he was still up following me around the house and it was about 10:30pm. I went to start a load of laundry and realized I had no detergent. Has anyone here had a baby, particularly their first, at age 40 or over?
I will be 40 this summer and hubby and I are thinking about having a baby. We do have his 12 year old son, who we are rearing, but this would be my first biological child, if we decide to do it.
I have a lot of concerns - - my age, of course. I don't smoke or drink, but I know I am considered high risk. I also can't help but consider that my stepson is at an age where he is getting a bit more...

baby ray has entered a new phase where she writhes and flails about like a wild animal at diaper changes. she very forecfully turns over, eventually sitting up...this often ends in a screaming crying fit. aaaagh. I tried doing it on the floor, didnt help much..i give her toys but that only works about 50% of the time. I know this is a phase but does anyone have advice how i can change her diapers without world war 3 or poo all over? I'm dyin' here.....

Last Friday I woke up in severe pain from the fibroid (23 weeks pregnant, but with fibroid was larger than a 40-week pregnancy.) Pain wouldn't subside, I started getting a little weird so husband drove me to hospital. (Me being a little weird actually turned out to be me going into shock from severe pain.) Let's talk about the things we cannot do without in our homes...

1. New Item!!! Shark Steam Vac....you'd be amazed all the crap this thing gets out of the floor. Yuck!
2. Food Saver Food Sealer...once a month we go to Sam's and spend like $300 on lots of meat, chicken, cheese, etc, and I spend a afternoon sealing it all up, then I can just go to Wild Oats and get the "accessory items" salad dressings, veggies, etc. So much cheaper and I love the vacuum...

I'm going to have to change my username......I'm still in shock......

My in-laws are over here until the end of April.....they stopped by yesterday on their way back from grocery shopping. As they were walking in, my father-in-law said, "Your mom wants to make hamburgers....is that OK?" Sure, no problem.....the place that they're staying has a community kitchen, I just figured that she wanted to be able to cook in peace.

So she's frying up...

Our daughter, our only child, is going off to college next year and I've been on the verge of becoming a helicopter parent with me worrying about planning and test taking and the whole nine yards of college admissions-- oh, and did I mention I'm getting on my daughter's last nerve?

This hit me like a ton of bricks.
