Crappy, this part of your post made me think a bit OT about something else - - wonder if Katie's career being in the crapper would allow her to restructure or terminate her contract? I know that she agrees to be Tom's alleged baby mama as well as the alleged recipient of his oh-so-studly Top Gun in exchange for a serious sum of money, but I wonder if there were any promises made in the contract about star status, or leading lady projects she would receive?
Before TomKat "happened", Katie had Batman Begins and Thank You For Smoking in the can; she was also allegedly attached to Factory Girl. Now, she was beyond dismal in BB, but the rumor mill had it that Tom had some of her scenes cut from Smoking due to nudity or sexual content, and he supposedly talked her into backing out of Factory for the same reasons. While she obviously wouldn't be an A list actress taken seriously in Hollywood had she never bargained with the Mighty Midget, I do wonder exactly where her career would be sitting had she not agreed to the sham.

Kid, agreed. By all accounts, Katie should have been highly in demand based on tabloid popularity alone after having Suri. But I think this is where the Tom connection stung her badly - - not only was her relationsham rumored to be a joke, but Tom had already done his monkey on crack routine on both Oprah and Matt Lauer. Katie was guilty by association. Add to that their unprofessional behavior at their respective movie premieres the summer before Suri was born and all the baggage that comes with hiring Katie (Tom; Scientology; Scientology tents; intense media scrutiny; etc.) - - not to mention the fact that Katie was never a stellar, committed actress in the first place - - and she's fairly well a walking Hollywood epidemic.

Re: Tom calling the media for Suri's birthday. Of course he did. How else would the little people like us see how wonderful and amazing the Cruise family is and how family oriented Tom is? If the helicopter did truly interfere on this party, where is at least one family member or guest looking up at the photographer in frustration or anger? Not one of them appears to do this. In fact, Tom and Katie make sure to give the photographer a few "good" shots, like Suri jumping on the trampoline, or Tom hugging Katie or the shot of the food piled up on the tables or the presents. They try so hard to look casual and normal but they are so transparent. If that helicopter had been cruising the Cruise Compound of Niacin and E-Meters hoping for a party or shots of the family, are we to believe that either he just happened to pick the exact right day at the exact right time, he didn't take shots of any other day or the family stayed sequestered inside until Suri's party.
