Two, the people who win or do extremely well on AI are generally the ones who start out under the radar but get better and better through the competition. They're the ones who pick up the votes that would have gone to people who have been eliminated because they keep on pulling out surprises and raising their game every week. Think Kelly Clarkson, Clay Gaykin, Elliott Yamin, and our own adored Cookie. Kris did that. People who start out very strong, and consistently stay that way throughout the competition (Tamyra Grey, Chris Daughtry, Melinda Doolittle), start out with a huge fan base, but just don't gather new fans because they've started out with the bar set so high that no one is surprised at anything they do.

That's my impression, anyway.

Just want to say that I completely agree with what PP said above. I don't want to say that Adam peaked too early, but he was consistently awesome and amazing throughout the season, whereas Care Bear flew in under the radar to such an extent that most of us had no idea who he was when he made Hollywood Week and then the Top 36 and then the Top 13. I think a lot of people want to see and support that person that continually improves each week. Cookie most certainly did that - - heck, I remember when he was the self-professed "Word Nerd" who liked crosswords and was just another guy in the competition who slowly gained steam and picked up fans - - exactly what Care Bear did all season. Nevermind the fact that Adam was also Adam Fucking Lambert, who glammed it up, guyliner and all, and most definitely had a theatrical means of delivering many of his songs, which isn't everone's taste.

Personally, I think what primarily did him in, besides the obviousness that Douchey Geekey's fans were not going to flock to "the dark side", was the continual and excessive over-pimpage by the judges, Fox and the media outlets. Adam was the declared winner weeks ago - - and the judges reminding us of this each and every week, along with practically begging for viewers to vote for him - - and Katy Perry showing up with his name on her cape - - only served to hurt Adam in the end, I think. People either got tired of it, offended by the obvious efforts to sway their votes or assumed that Adam was safe.

Regardless, if I had to choose THE performance of the season (excluding last night because I still get goosbumps thinking of the Queen performance), it is HANDS DOWN Adam's performance of "Mad World". Go to You Tube and listen to the studio version - - it is mindblowing in its quiet beauty and absolute flawlessness. No performance could possibly touch it, IMO.

They're idiots, which I don't necessarily find offensive. But I do find it offensive that they think I'm an idiot and would believe what they're saying.
