This is very disappointing! I guess money trumps ethics? WTH???

Newspapers are under tremendous pressure to stay alive right now, and I imagine the SP Times is no exception. This is a disappointing but understandable compromise, and almost surely a business decision rather than a philosophical statement. I think the powers that be at SPT have rationalized the morality of accepting only those ads that address the vaguest generalities of "what is Scientology"; maybe they're even telling themselves they're taking the cult's money so they can stay in business to help expose them.

I see these same types of ads on Keith Olbermann's "Countdown" TV show on MSNBC. Few in the mainstream visual media have been harder on the cult than KO has; as ineffectual as these ads are, I think the media outlets that air them are stealing money. If anything, it's rousing the curiosity of more neutral observers who until now had no interest in finding out exactly what Scientology is.

I've thought this minor media blitz that Miss Cabbage has orchestrated was a desperate, hail Mary sort of maneuver from the start. If it stimulates more people to investigate the true nature of the cult, and we all know how easy that is to do now, this campaign is tantamount to drilling holes in a sinking ship to let the water out.
