Well the bottom line is really that Henry followed law and tradition when it suited him and ignored or rewrote those same laws and traditions when it didn't.

I agree with you that he grew bored with his wives, although he stuck it out with the first queen for a couple of decades until the quest for a son became all-consuming. I'd like to think had she given him a living male heir history would have been different, but who knows?
