I think the point here is that Hurley didn't think about whether he has (or will have) a problem with it or not.
I remember crying in my room because my mom forced me to wear a hideous floral jumper with inside-out pockets to Sunday school. Inside-out pockets! As in, I had two large triangles jutting out from my hips.
My mom made me wear ugly, unflattering stuff I didn't want to wear, too, and I have pictures to prove it, but she didn't make me wear stuff with societal taboos attached to them, take pictures, and then put them out to circulate on the internet so that I can be reminded about it by my peers for the rest of my natural life and beyond. To me, that's the big difference.
