I wonder if the film will show Kate's mother (allegedly) making sure her daughter enrols at the right university in order to meet poor old Wills... Or if they'll show Kate worked her 2 day week at Jigsaw with her four month a year holiday and then quitting because her job was too stressful...

British actress Camilla Luddington plucked from obscurity to play Kate Middleton

She has only had bit parts in an American soap opera and a couple of crime series.
But unknown British actress Camilla Luddington could be on the path to fame and fortune after being cast as Kate Middleton in a planned movie about the royal wedding.
Luddington, 27, will star in the television film about the royal romance being made by US TV network Lifetime.

She has previously had minor roles in American shows including Days Of Our Lives and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
The production, which will be called William And Kate, stars New Zealand-born actor Nico Evers Swindell as the prince.
It is rumoured the Prince of Wales will be played by British performer Ben Cross, best known for his portrayal of the Olympic athlete Harold Abrahams in the 1981 movie Chariots of Fire.
A synopsis of the movie says: 'The film chronicles the history of William and Kate - from the moment the two students met at Scotland's prestigious University of St Andrews, through the ups and downs of their nine-year courtship complicated by social and Royal Family pressures, and intense global media attention surrounding their storybook nuptials.'

Two Princes: New Zealand star Nico Evers-Swindell has been lined up to play Prince William

It is thought the movie will be broadcast around the time of the royal wedding on April 29.
German distributor SevenOne International, which has secured the rights to the movie said it had high hopes for the film.
Managing director Jens Richter, said: 'William & Kate tells the story of how these two young people overcame the many obstacles to their courtship and found lasting love.
'With this touching story in the hands of Frank Konigsberg, one of the best TV producers in the business, we are proud to offer this year's most moving television event.'

Dayum! These actors sure are a helluva lot better looking than their RL counterparts.

I, too, wonder how they will approach Kate Middleton's job history. . . You could literally write her CV on the back of a postage stamp and still have room.

Job 1. Accessories something or another position at Mummy and Daddy's friends company. 2 days a week with unlimited holiday time. Quit cos too stressful.

Job 2. Photographer. Exhibition never happened. Did she ever take any pictures? It's a mystery.

Job 3. 'Web designer' for mummy and daddy's company. Except she spent most of her time in her posh flat in London and then living with future hubby in Wales.

Such a career girl.

While I find Kate's work ethic appalling and her whole 'putting her life on hold while waiting for proposal' schtick somewhat pathetic, do you honestly believe that her middle-class family thought she had a snowflake's-chance-in-hell of snaring the British heir to the point that it influenced their choice of university? I mean, this is the British royal family, after all.

More to the point, why would they *want* that?
I mean, yeah, there's the obscenely wealthy thing.
And the life can't be *as bad* as some try to portray it.
But still, the politics, the backstabbing - and then you have to deal with Elizabeth and Philip. He, alone, is known to be one of the surliest dudes on the planet and she's got no real great rep as far as being in touch with real life.

Nah. If the folks were involved, I'm guessing it was to keep their preencess happy. But it's just a guess. I really don't follow this circus, not sure why I'm even reading much less replying!

Take it for what you will, but there was a comment a few months ago by a woman who claimed to work for a magazine who said the 'photography career' was nothing more than a ruse to make it look like Waity Katie was embarking on a career. Apparently, the Queen and several royal aides suggested that Kate Middleton find a legit job, and this was the reponse. The author of this used her real name and mentioned the magazine she worked for, so I think it might be based in truth.

I wouldn't be at all shocked if Mummy Carole hoped that DD would at least met friends of friends of William and be in that circle even if it was only on the fringes.

Apparently, Sister Pippa is known for only dating dudes with titles and was involved with a landowner named Guy Pelly whom she met via Kate's connections. (I believe Pelly went to school with William and was a friend of his.)

So, in answer to the question, I think she was probably surprised as anyone when Kate & William started dating, but I do think the plan was always to try and be pals with him or his friends in hopes of landing a titled guy. It was said that Kate was going to attend another university, but Carole persuaded her to attend St. Andrew's when it was learnt that William would be attending.

I don't know. Philip in private has a reputation for liking 'pretty young things' (he famously got on very well with Diana until she went public with her marriage issues).
Elizabeth is obviously of a different generation but so are most people her age. And quite frankly she's not exactly going to be around that long anyway. In Kate's shoes I'd be more concerned with the 'establishment'. They seem a lot stuffier and pickier than the actual Royal Family who in private have apparently very middle-class habits.
I can totally see her parents pushing her- not for the wealth but for the prestige. Britain is still very much a class-based society and the Royal Family, however criticised by some, still makes billions of people round the world stop in fascination.

Kid I don't suppose Kate was planning on going to Bristol by any chance? Because that's where William was going to study History of Art until a scandal in the H of A dept (involving my old tutor of old people) unfolded. 'Out of the blue' William then changed his mind and went off to St Andrews.... Conspiracy theory or what!

Re Kate finding a job there were indeed loads of stories in the British press about that- the Establishment (I guess not necessarily the Queen, but at least her aides) were getting nervous at the bad press Kate was receiving. In fact that carried on up till the engagement. As I mentioned before Kate was criticised for not only being 'waity' but also refusing to participate in charity events, the only occupation deemed non-controversial for a future Queen.

This is the reason I found it hard to believe that her middle-class parents would presume to be able to infiltrate the "royal" classes. But I get KL's explanation. Getting in with one of the friends of friends and being on the periphery would have been a step up and an achievable one.

FWIW, my MIL came from a very working-class family and managed to land a guy-my FIL-who was certainly many steps above her. (Not quite an aristo, but minor landed gentry who went to the 'right' schools and belonged to the 'right' clubs.) Apparently, FIL's family was very much against the match. Also, they met during WWII at a time when the class system was even more ingrained than it is now.

My point is, it is rare, but it does happen.

maum: IRC, it wasn't Bristol. I wasn't surprised in the least, though, to learn Pippa went to Edinburgh. For those outside the UK, Edinburgh and Bristol University have the reputation for having far more posh people attending than either Oxford or Cambridge. It's been that way for awhile.
