He's just a small child and therefore pretty much gender neutral

I was once put in a dress by an aunt of mine who took pictures as a hobby--I was about that age and pissed off at her, everyone had a good laugh.. and my sister still pokes fun at me from time to time.. but I think i'm still sane! I think there are cultures where its not a huge deal and there are cultures where people will absolutely freak out. And for some reason in old paintings you always see boys in dresses with a toy hammer or car to show his gender which was common back then--but Hurley showed poor judgement as her son will be seen and critisized around the world, she mighta done it to cause a stir, get her name back in the headlines and it worked like a charm!

How old is Damien, anyway?

I think the point here is that Hurley didn't think about whether he has (or will have) a problem with it or not.
I remember crying in my room because my mom forced me to wear a hideous floral jumper with inside-out pockets to Sunday school. Inside-out pockets! As in, I had two large triangles jutting out from my hips.
My mom made me wear ugly, unflattering stuff I didn't want to wear, too, and I have pictures to prove it, but she didn't make me wear stuff with societal taboos attached to them, take pictures, and then put them out to circulate on the internet so that I can be reminded about it by my peers for the rest of my natural life and beyond. To me, that's the big difference.

Having a bunch of strangers around the world--let alone your peers--endlessly tease you about your sexual identity and putting it all under public scrutiny is not "cute" nor fun. It's humiliating
