Good/Inexpensive Digital Camera for 10yo

Posts: 453 11/26/07 12:31:27	Tags : None My (almost) 10yo daughter has asked for only one thing for Christmas - a digital camera. She saw one in Wally World for around $20 but I'm thinking it's probably a piece of junk. Do any of you have any recommendations for a good/inexpensive digital camera that would be good for her? I'm really trying not to spend more than $75 but if I can't find anything decent in that price range this may have to be a birthday gift. I don't need anything fancy for her but I also don't want to spend $50 and have the thing be useless. JCPenney has a digital camera/camcorder thing on sale for $40 (it's on their back cover of the catalog) but they don't list a brand and I haven't seen it live. Any input would be great

Posts: 853 11/26/07 18:58:50	My advice would be to stay away from any of them that say they are made for kids. Also, I would tend to agree with your assessment of the $20 one! She is just going to get frustrated if her pictures look awful (we learned this the hard way with my son). Fortunately for him, we just decided to buy a new camera ourselves and give him the old one. In your case, I would buy the best camera that you can get a good deal on, if that makes any sense. I have always relied on Consumer Reports as a guide in the past, but my membership expired. There are reviews HERE or on Amazon.com that might be helpful. Sorry I don't have a recommendation!

Posts: 453 11/27/07 06:14:15	thanks callme! Last year she really wanted a sewing machine so we purchased on of those mini ones for kids - an absolute piece of crap. I returned it and have since just let her use my sewing machine. thanks for the link!

Posts: 453 11/30/07 06:35:49	okay, after much research, we ended up purchasing the Vcam Now 2.0 camera. It is both a still camera and camcorder. We went ahead and purchased another 1GB memory card so that she would have enough storage. It seemed to receive a lot of great reviews. It was also at a good price point - around $70. We'll see how it works out!
