This year, we decided to escape drama, turkey and all things Thanksgiving. We hopped over the pond to Paris for a long weekend. We spent our days wandering around (and since I used to live there, I was able to show him all the wonderful hidden places of Paris!).
On Friday, we had just finished spending a couple of hours in the Musee d'Orsay and were walking along the quais of the right bank of the Seine, when Eric wanted to find a bridge to look at Paris in the twilight, when all the monuments are lit up. We went to the Pont Alexandre III (if you don't know it, it's the really pretty, ornate bridge that has statues and gold leaf on it...it's regularly featured in fashion magazines, LOL). The Eiffel Tower was so close you could almost touch it, and behind us, you could see Notre Dame and the Louvre. The sun had just set, so the sky was this intense twilight blue, and everything was just glowing and gorgeous.
Then, exactly at 6pm, the Eiffel Tower started sparkling - they do a light show every hour on the hour where the tower lights up with all these twinkling, sparkling light, like a diamond. Eric made me close my eyes, then got down on one knee, and when I opened them, he was holding a ring and asked me to marry him.
Of course I burst into happy tears and said yes!
The ring was incredibly special, as it was my grandmother's art deco ring from 1939, from Croatia. He had had it repaired and resized for me.
Then, we went to La Rotonde for dinner - and what a dinner!!!
And so, ladies, THAT is how you really propose in Paris!
Lazy Kate
P.S. The wedding is in June :-)
