I am so tired of the idea that "white women" aren't going to vote for anyone but Hillary Clinton, "White men" only vote for McCain and "Blacks" only vote for Obama. While many people are openly biased, there are others who are voting on issues. Quite frankly, I've seen more Obama bumper stickers on cars of every race and gender where I live than anyone else. And I don't live in a liberal bastion either. Oprah isn't hurt by supporting Obama any more than Hasselback is hurt by cheerleading McCain (something she does on air, which Oprah by and large hasn't done). Oprah's show has simply run its course. Her target viewers are getting older, and younger celebrities don't need her venue anymore now that they have myspace, youtube, facebook, etc.

Thank you, and well said, Sista.

This has nothing to do with Oprah's ratings, but I was thinking about CTC's celebration of his 25 years in showbusiness. How is it 25 years, when he made four movies before Risky business, starting with Endless love in 1981? Do they somehow not count? Maybe I'm missing something here.

If they went back to Endless Love, the number of years wouldn't be even. Besides, Endless Love tanked at the box office. Plus, if they put any emphasis on that film, they would have to talk about Brooke Shields again. Tom had only a small part and maybe his ego wouldn't be able to handle the fact that Brooke was the star of that film and he was little more than an extra. So it was probably 25 years of HIM being the center of attention in every film.
Yes, I see your point. It's all about him. Doesn't change the fact though, that it was a little fib to say the least to start with Risky Business. Once again reminds me that nothing he or co$ says/does can be taken at face value. A good exercise in independant thinking for me!

Oprah is wealthy beyond most people's comprehension. If she starts telling people that she's done so well because of "The Secret," some people are going to listen. This is Magical Thinking at its worst, in my opinion.
You are totally right!! That would be a tremendous abuse of the power she still wields with the public. I personally think between that religious stance and trying to resurrect TC's dying career, she may have done some real damage to her reputation and her dynasty.

I don't understand why people think that the Obama endorsement was the beginning of Oprah's downfall. I'm sure it had a part to play for some but I think the growing dissatisfaction with Oprah started a long, loooong time ago (at least it did for me). Eh...chalk it up to election year overkill.

That shows a complete lack of understanding on her part of the effects of sexual abuse. My college roomate was raped, and she didn't want anyone, including her friends and family, to touch her for a long time.
