OK, I'll start with my personal favourites: I
liked Armenia, Norway, Romania and Israel. Sweden were OK, but the singer, with her Jocelyn Wilderstein looks had me distracted.
Not impressed at all with: Ukraine, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Greece and could not believe they did as well as they did. Finland and
their Lordi-lite - lightning doesn't strike twice, guys. Not too crazy about Russia either - the song and performance had some merit, but I don't
think they should have won. I read somewhere today that the song was produced by Timbaland. Jeez what did that cost the Russians?
Snarky comments: The Polish singer looked a bit like a (very beautiful) tranny. The Estonian guy dry-humping the piano was a bit much . It
was pointed out to me that the looks the Russian singer and the ice-skater exchanged were a bit gay-love and once that idea was put in my head I couldn't
help but see the same thing.
Observations: What I found interesting was that the 12 point scores that went to Russia originated from the following countries: Israel, Armenia, Estonia,
Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine. Now Israel I can understand because there are a lot of Russian jews that emigrated there, and Belarus is basically
just a pocket of Russia, but what the hell is going on in the Baltics? And Ukraine? So much for the Orange Revolution!
Best Laughs of the Night: The Swedish Commentator was good value. Opinions ladies: do you think he got stoned before he made
his appearance?
I know the Germans and Brits are despondant because
they keep scoring badly and did again this year, but I don't know if the've noticed, but only two countries gave ANY points to Poland and neither of
them were their neighbours, nor were they from the Eastern brotherhood. I mean, bloody hell, Spain did a lot better than any of those three and they were
absolute CRAP. The western countries can't complain too much about a perceived bias against them when someone like Spain manages to score points for the
absolute horse-shit that they shovelled out.
Do you think Terry Wogan will make good his threat and quit. I would be heartbroken, but I don't think the Eastern countries
would be too fussed. Like the Olympics, Eurovision is becoming more and more political with each year and has become an opportunity for countries to re-ignite
their nationalistic fervour. For Serbia it was a boon - they are "coming in from the cold" after years of being associated with the Milosevic reign
and the ethnic cleansing that went with it. It will be very interesting to see the baggage that goes along with Russia hosting it next
year.
