It really does begin to remind a person of "Tale of Two Cities," doesn't it?

You've got that right MamaJunebug!
From Pretty in Pink, "What a disgusting display of wealth!" I don't get why even famous people buy homes with pools. They never use them.

No, the house he was renting was a one-story Tudor. I remember those aerial photos when the paps were still hoping to get a glimpse of the as-yet-unseen Suri.

You've got that right! Yesterday I read that the Jolie-Pitts (the article called them "the Pitts," though we all know that isn't quite accurate) bought a villa in France for a cool $70 mil.--their sixth estate. And that's a couple who continuously spouts off about how much we should all be doing for world poverty! Heh. I'll believe it when they put their money where their mouths are.

They give 1/3 of their very sizable income to charities. That's millions upon millions of dollars every year. What they do with the rest of it I have no problem with. BTW, they didn't buy the estate. Word is that they're renting it--mostly likely for a few months while they wait for the twins to be born.
Sorry, but when one-third of your income still allows you to pay for mortgages and property taxes on estates totaling over $87 million, I still think that's an absurd amount of wealth to hoard away for one family. Think of all the impoverished kids they could feed with the sticker price of just one or two of their homes.
(Btw, I am including the French chateau in that total since it hasn't been confirmed that they're only renting, and even if they are, they're going to be paying the mortgage with their monthly rent for as long as they have it.)

Together they bought a mansion in New Orleans. There was a rumor last year, which their rep denied, that they were buying an apartment in Berlin, and AJ *might* own an apartment in London, though there's some thought that she sold it awhile back.
This was the source for my valuation of their real estate, Scarlet. It was reported by NBC. I don't particularly care who bought which home and when. They're a family now and have been for long enough to have consolidated their residences.

Are these $70 million estates really worth that? Who knows when you get that high up in the stratosphere. I think the problem I have with Tom's new home is that it's ugly. At least we know the previous owner is laughing at TC and hopefully doing something enjoyable with the money he made off of Cruise. Maybe its Location, Location, Location. I don't know LA but I suppose Tommy's new house is close enough to UA or the Celebrity Center or wherever that people pay more to be closer. When someone like Brangelina buy mega estates I just view it as asset transferring. Whether the money is sitting in their Swiss bank account or sitting in a French chateau it's all just considered an asset on their balance sheet. And wealthy people like to be diversified between real estate, stocks, etc. It's all real estate appreciation vs. the stock market over the long term. I really want to see the inside of Tommy's new home. Wasn't Katie supposedly in charge of the decorating? Would love to see what she let her LA decorator talk her into.
