This is excellent to get corroboration from other people who were there.
I didn't watch the videos, but I did read the article. The article doesn't even go into the worst thing that happened with the musical chairs.

Marc Headley posted about that awful musical chairs game on OCMB a couple of years ago.

Oh, Madame, the best of the whole article I have seen yet may be the response by Tommy Davis. He sinks them more surely than any of the others.
"How about that? You hold on to the tin cans and then this guy
asks you a bunch of questions, and if you pay enough money you get to join the master race. How's that for a religion?" -- Frank Zappa, to a concert audience at the Rockpile, Toronto, May 1969 "There's one thing that has stayed constant throughout time. It's an instinctual part of man to conquer evil. The battle of good over evil in this world has not changed. It has remained constant throughout the millennia." - Kyle Thomas Brennan |

Kudos to the St. Petersburg Times for having the chops to do some serious digging. Multiple kudos to Rathbun and Rinder for finally speaking out about the
serious abuses. Miscavige is one deranged individual. He is a criminal and should be charged as such.
Let's hope this is the final nail in the coffin. Somewhere, a fat lady is preparing to sing.... |

I'd better get on that, then... |

This is all kinds of super fantastic bubble plastic, but the journalists' credibility took a hit when they referred to Davey's "chiseled good
looks." A minor quibble, but good God, with or without the backstory, the guy's got the face of a rodent.

Gawkers take: http://gawker.com/5298790/tampa-bay-paper-throws-down-hard+hittig-xscientology-report
Joasem said her ex, Marty Rathbun, "lives for war.'' Cathy Rinder said her ex is so out of touch with their children he doesn't know his 24-year-old son has skin cancer. Doesn't this just prove disconnection? I mean, even if there is bad-blood, you still know what is going on with you blood. Know what I mean?

When I first started going to Operation Clambake, I remember they had an article up about the disappearance of Marty Rathbun and Mike Rinder. Not only did
they disappear from Scientology functions, their names were scrubbed from Scientology websites and publications.
There was a lot of speculation on OCMB about were they had gone: if they'd been killed, if they had left Scientology, or if they'd been kept in captivity or the RPF. I'm glad to hear that they're out, and safe, and telling their stories to newspapers. This is such a huge blow to the cult. It also offers hope that other high-ranking Scientolgists (like Shelley Miscavige- David Miscavige's wife) can get out with their lives. |

Unfortunately, Marty's still nuts. He thinks Scientology was good before Davy; he needs to look around the internet some more.

Great reading. I'm glad to see AP has picked it up. Hopefully it should now make its way into mainstream publications all over. Yay!
Never discuss Scientology with the critic. Just discuss his or her crimes, known and unknown.

Boy, oh, boy...that Tommy Davis is cuh-RAY-zee!! Just a few things I gleaned from the audio clips where Tommy is talking directly with the reporters:
Part 1 2:08-2:50 "HE'S PSYCHOTIC!!" (repeated 5x) "Joe...look at me when I'm talking to you!!" [Joe Childs, one of the staff writers] "They were really up to some bad, bad, bad, bad, bad stuff" ===== Part 2 0:34-1:55 Signs of craziness: In addressing the claims about Miscavige beating up people, Davis responds by rattling off about how the church is building new orgs with tons of square footage, the multi-million dollar renovations, having one of the largest architectural firms to work on church projects, Scientology's massive in-house printing press and the human rights/anti-drug/VM programs. Huh?? What does any of THAT got to do with the abuse charges?? Honestly, it sounded like that non-sensical Billy Bob Thornton interview all over again. ====== part 5 :51-3:04 - If Rathbun et al. are lying, why doesn't the CoS sue each of them for slander? - Where is Miscavige? Why doesn't he come out in person and defend himself and the church? - Rathbun and Rinder repeatedly beat up fellow Scientologists for years...and the CoS does nothing about it? ====== I was disappointed with and perplexed by Marty's continued faith in Scientology. He made it seem as if Miscavige's squirreling of tech as the biggest problem facing the church. At one point, he said that the Fair Game policy was cancelled but was later "revived" by DM for his more sinister purposes. Hogwash!! I'm glad he's finally speaking out regarding the abuses he witnessed but I wouldn't trust him otherwise. He's still in denial about the dark side of Hubbard. |

Shallow response to the audio: Can that guy's voice get any more irritating?
Serious response to the audio: That there are true believers of Davis's degree of devotion to that cult. KEEP KATIE.

This is to Nanuq:
Somebody on OCMB brought up a good point, something that I had not thought of. Maybe it's just as well that Marty Rathbun thinks that Scientology was good before Miscavige--BECAUSE that is easier for some Scientologists to process in their minds, rather than that the whole ball of wax is worthless. It's like taking baby steps. |

Hippo wrote:I think it's *exactly* this, in many cases. My ex grew up in Scientology, and his parent had been in for decades. When he left the cult, he still believed in the tech, but thought the management was criminal (but even on that point, he still didn't want to discuss any thing of a critical nature regarding the CoS with me). His parent had been treated *horribly* (which was the catalyst for him leaving), and that parent thought is was "just management" specifically at Flag Base, and wouldn't even begin to think about leaving the cult--I don't know that this person ever did leave--might still be in. For both of them, thinking otherwise would be to admit everything they believed for most or all of their lives (and spent their life savings on, or lost their retirement/job/apartment to, as in this case), was a lie. That's pretty devastating and pretty much puts you at starting from zero. So I agree--I can see why it would be hard to make that leap right away.

I do agree that we should give them time.
However both Mike and Marty are guilty of many things. There are many things that they have not yet said. The info on Lisa McPherson is incomplete and includes more things that switch this out of the accidental death category. But that said, this hopefully will precipitate more people and stories coming forward. I even saw this in the throwaway paper on the subway yesterday-EVERYONE looks through this thing.
